Dental Implant Surgery Charlottte NC

When it comes to your quality of life, few things are more important than ensuring that the integrity of your jaw and mouth is maintained.

At Greater Charlotte Oral and Facial Surgery, we do our best to help you look and feel great by offering a variety of options designed to keep your mouth and your jaw as healthy as possible.

One of the most important things we can do is to help you maintain the functionality of your teeth and there are a variety of things we can do to make this happen.

What are Dental Implants?

When you have damaged or missing teeth, there are a number of options available to help you fix your smile.

One of the most effective ones includes getting dental implants.

These are metal posts that are used to replace the roots of missing teeth (damaged teeth will be removed prior to installing the implant).

A crown, also known as an artificial tooth, is then fixed to the top of the post (also known as an abutment) of said dental implant.

Once the crown is placed, you cannot see the metal post at all. All that remains above your gum line is the artificial tooth.

What are the Benefits of Receiving Dental Implant Surgery?

Dental implants are a great option for a number of reasons and offer many benefits.

First of all, one of the hardest things about losing teeth is the loss of mouth and jaw function you might experience.

This can be frustrating and isn't something that can typically be fixed with less invasive dental procedures like dentures or bridges.

The great thing about dental implants is that they are inserted into your gums just like the roots of your natural teeth.

Because of this, they are fixed in place and offer a tooth replacement system that mimics the functionality of your natural teeth.

Eating and talking feel much more natural with dental implants than they do with other solutions.

As mentioned above, dental implants also look very natural and blend in with the rest of your teeth.

What are the Risks Associated with Dental Implant Surgery?

As with any surgical procedures, there are a few things to be aware of when it comes to dental implant surgery.

Infection can sometimes occur around the implant site, for example, as can minor injury to surrounding structures during the procedure.

This includes things like surrounding blood vessels or teeth.

Sinus problems or nerve damage are also potential risks to consider.

The good news is these problems are not common, and tend to be easily resolvable even if they do occur.

Speaking with an experienced dentist can help you better gauge your potential for developing any issues as well as how those issues might be treated.

Before you begin the procedure, you should have a thorough dental exam that helps us to develop a treatment plan designed for your specific needs.

This will help promote healing and get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
